Spam emails
The sending of spam emails is unfortunately a fact of internet life now, and these intrusions are unwelcome. Spammers will take any opportunity they can to usurp valid email addresses for their purposes.
It has come to our attention that the Leamington Festival web address was used by spammers for sending out email on or around 1730 hours on Tuesday 25th March 2008. The content of the emails or their attachments can vary from the innocuous to the unpleasant. Where the spam emails have failed to reach their destination they bounce back to the Festival's "catch all" mailbox, and this is how they have been detected.
As we only see the rejected mails (and that so far is in excess of 900 on that date in particular), it is impossible for us to identify how many might have reached a valid destination.
There have been some similar spam emails sent out periodically in the intervening period
We wish to assure anyone who has seen the note on the front page and read this page, or been directed here as a result of emails received, that these emails have most certainly not been issued, sanctioned or condoned by this Festival or those responsible for the operation of the site. There is little that can be done at present to prevent this abuse of the Leamington Festival name but we will continue to monitor the situation.
